Islamic History
Islam heavily emphasizes advancing STEM. In the Islamic Golden Age (750-1250 AD), many great polymaths resided in Andalusia who were experts in medicine (Ibn Sina), philosophy (Ibn Rushd), and mathematics (Al-Khwarizmi). Al-Jazari, for instance, developed a water raising machine in the 13th century. Algebra and the term algorithm, central to the study of artificial intelligence, are derived from Al-Khwarizmi. The first university ever, Al-Qarawwiyyin, was founded in Fez, Morocco in 859 AD by Fatima Al-Fihri, prominent philanthropist and educational advocate. The idea of chairs, fellows, and degrees stem back to her establishment. As Muslims, we must seek to understand artificial intelligence, both from an academic and religious angle. Fahm Institute exists to bridge this gap, for ourselves and our future generations. |
